Project Description & Objectives

A group of scientist women will dwell during 2 weeks at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), emulating Mars’ conditions. This feat will aid us understand the adaptive changes that the human body undergoes under extreme conditions. To do so, genomic studies, metabolomics and physiologic parameters will be measured in the participants to glimpse the stress and exhaustion responses, and monitoring their health status, comparing it with each participant’s basal genetic susceptibility to the conditions mentioned, and finally associating the results with the metabolomic changes before, during and after the mission.
Data Collection Process
Garmin device will be worn by all participants 24/7 to collect physiological data. Daily questionnaires will be used to collect subjective feedback.
Fitrockr Utilization
Fitrockr platform will be used to extract and assess the digital biomarkers collected via the Garmin devices. Fitrockr will also be used to manage and collect daily feedback from the participants via the Fitrockr Survey module.
