GPS Location Tracking

GPS Location Tracking

Add-on Module

About

The Fitrockr GPS Location Tracking add-on module allows collection of all day 24/7 gps location data.

Tracking Options

There are two ways how to obtain GPS location data via the Fitrockr platform:

(1) Activity GPS location tracking via wearables (standard feature)

Fitrockr imports GPS information during recorded activities from wearables. Please note that wearables do not record 24/7 GPS data. To save battery life, wearables only activate GPS during recorded activity types that include location information (e.g. running).

This module is included as a standard feature in all subscription plans.

(2) 24/7 GPS location tracking via the Fitrockr app (add-on)

The Fitrockr mobile app can record and collect GPS location all day 24/7.

Location data is recorded with a timestamp, latitude, longitude and accuracy (m). The frequency is 10-15 minutes.

Accelerometer & Gyroscope

Accelerometer & Gyroscope

Add-on Module

About

The Accelerometer & Gyroscope add-on module allows 24/7 collection of accelerometer & gyroscope data from compatible Garmin devices.

Accelerometer

  • Measures acceleration along 3 orthogonal axes (x, y and z).
  • The output is milli-g units.
  • Resolution is fixed at 25Hz (i.e. 25 measurements per second). Garmin wearables do not support adjusting this resolution.
  • Recording is 24/7. It is not possible to schedule or start/stop recording.
  • Each user will produce 2.16 Mio. measurements per day.
  • Accelerometer data generates approx. 562.5KB/hour (13.18MB/day).
  • Data export is only available as csv or  json file format. XLS is not support as MS Excel cannot open such large amounts of data. You need a code/text editor.
  • Fluctuations in recording frequency may occur and are normal due to error tolerances of the hardware.

Gyroscope

  • Measures angular velocity along 3 orthogonal axes x, y and z.
  • The output is degrees/second.
  • Resolution is fixed at 32Hz (i.e. 32 measurements per second). Garmin wearables do not support adjusting this resolution.
  • Recording is 24/7. It is not possible to schedule or start/stop recording.
  • Each user will produce 2.76 Mio. measurements per day.
  • Accelerometer data generates approx. 720KB/hour (16.87MB/day).
  • Data export is only available as csv or  json file format. XLS is not support as MS Excel cannot open such large amounts of data. You need a code/text editor.
  • Fluctuations in recording frequency may occur and are normal due to error tolerances of the hardware.

Garmin Insurance Symposium

At the 2026 Garmin Insurance Symposium, Joerg Fehlinger, Fitrockr CEO, will present pioneering use cases and real-world success stories demonstrating how wearable data is reshaping risk assessment, prevention, and customer engagement in the insurance industry.

Disable GPS Data

Location tracking can raise legitimate ethical red flags for research teams and IRBs alike. Fitrockr now gives administrators the control to disable GPS information.
