What does influence sleep measurement and recording

Wearables record sleep in two ways:

▶︎ Sleep

▶︎ Naps

Sleep

Most wearables rely on a configured sleep window per user. The default is 22:00 – 6:00. Only during these set times – set in the Wearable App or in the Fitrockr App – will the wearable device expect “to look” for sleep to be detected. If the actual sleep happens outside of this window it will most likely not be caught.

We have tested setting sleep windows to 24hrs but this has completely confused the wearables and negatively influenced data collection – so don’t do it. We recommend setting sleep windows to realistic 8 hrs windows.

Naps

Naps are tough to identify by wearables and are not always automatically detected. Reason is that nap patterns differ tremendously between people. The safest way to record naps is to actively start a nap directly on the wearable.
