Wearable Sync Methods and Frequencies

Most wearables record data 24/7 and store it on their internal storage. Extracting the data from the device is called “synchronization” or “syncing”.

Each wearable manufacturer comes with a different sync method and frequency which are explained in this article.

Garmin

The Fitrockr platform provides multiple ways to sync Garmin wearables:

Bluetooth Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via Bluetooth either via the Garmin Connect app or the Fitrockr app and then automatically sent to the Fitrockr cloud via Internet.

The Bluetooth sync can be triggered manually or automatically in the background. The frequency of background syncs is determined by the device itself based on predefined events such as “activity completed”, “X amount of steps collected”, “Bluetooth connection reestablished”, etc.

Wifi Sync: logging data is extracted from the wearable via Wifi directly from the device to the Fitrockr cloud.

The Wifi sync can be triggered manually or automatically in the background. The frequency of background sync is determined by the device based on events such as “activity completed”, “X amount of steps collected”, “Bluetooth connection reestablished”, etc. The background sync is also automatically enforced every 60 minutes.

USB Cable Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via USB cable connected to the device and a smartphone running the Fitrockr app or a laptop. Data is then sent to the Fitrockr cloud.

The USB cable sync can be triggered manually.

Live Streaming: data is live streamed in real-time from the wearable via Bluetooth via the Fitrockr app and automatically sent to the Fitrockr cloud via Internet.

The Live Stream can be triggered manually or run automatically in the background as long as there is a Bluetooth connection between the device and the smartphone.

Withings

The Fitrockr platform provides multiple ways to sync Withings wearables:

Bluetooth Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via Bluetooth via the Withings app and then automatically sent to the Fitrockr cloud via Internet.

The Bluetooth sync can be triggered manually or automatically in the background. The frequency of background syncs is determined by the device itself based on predefined events.

LTE Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via LTE Internet connection directly from the device to the Fitrockr cloud.

The LTE sync is triggered automatically in the background. The frequency of background sync is determined by the device based on events.

Apple Health (Apple Watch)

The Fitrockr platform supports syncing Apple Watch, iPhones and any other wearable  compatible with Apple Health:

Bluetooth Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via Bluetooth via the Fitrockr app and then automatically sent to the Fitrockr cloud via Internet.

The Bluetooth sync can be triggered manually.

Google Health (Google Pixel Watch)

The Fitrockr platform supports syncing Google Pixel Watch, Android Phones and any other wearable  compatible with Google Health Connect:

Bluetooth Sync: data is extracted from the wearable via Bluetooth via the Fitrockr app and then automatically sent to the Fitrockr cloud via Internet.

The Bluetooth sync can be triggered manually.
